As I read this book, I felt as if I had a business sales broker right in the same room with me, explaining everything as I went along. Paula's book revealed the only "firming" ingredient appeared to be egg white!. Joyce's best book. Bought the Instant Immersions Italian Crash Course CD's because the price wasright.However, had access to other Italian courses, found them to be better for me.I like to know how to pronounce the vowels, consonants & other pronunciationtips before I start a course. I have since found I have several of her titles on my “to be read” list. But the value of the book lies in how Gissing presents the issue and in his portrayal of the weaknesses and the frustrations in the many men-women relationships that have a place in "The Whirlpool."The book is slow-reading and clumsy, as is much of Gissing. Yet he wrote so painstakingly well.The Whirlpool and The Odd Women moved me in ways that Dickens never could. This obvious flaw wont ruin the book. Controlled their creativity. Although he does try to connect them to the ancient stuff to know what's valuable back then.
