After buying his freedom, he was an ardent supporter of abolishing slavery. He emerged a gifted writer and has provided insights into centuries of slave trading and why the relationship between black and white seems always in favor of white. First published in 1789, Equiano's engaging narrative, written in English, describes his life before and after his capture; looking forward to recognition as a descendant of a chief; working on slave ships; traveling to the southern states of America, the West Indies, Europe, and the Arctic; and fighting a war. Olaudah Equiano's capture by slave-traders at the age of ten took him from life in what is now Eastern Nigeria and thrust him on a fateful journey that would submerge him in an incomprehensible world. Written with a sense of literary history, Equiano's account corrects wrong impressions about Africa and explores what it is like for an African to find himself suddenly alien in a world that considers Africans as not quite human.Other titles by African writers from Waveland Press: Ba, So Long a Letter (ISBN 9781577668060) Beti, The Poor Christ of Bomba (ISBN 9781577664185) Emecheta, Kehinde (ISBN 9781577664192) Head, The Collector of Treasures and Other Botswana Village Tales (ISBN 9781478607601) Head, Maru (ISBN 9781478607618) Head, When Rain Clouds Gather (ISBN 9781478607595) La Guma, In the Fog of the Seasons' End (ISBN 9781478600251)

Equiano was born in 1745 in a Nigerian village, was captured by slave traders at the age of ten, and worked as a slave in the West Indies. By the age of 21 he had purchased his freedom and became an activist and traveller. His remarkable accounts, edited by Edwards, provides a fine set of "you are there" tales, literary and well-done. --Midwest Book Review

like new excellent. Even now, Garnier Nutrisse's annoying insistence on including all the more irritating and sensitizing fragrances in their skin and hair care products persists, and then there is the covering up of Formaldehyde donors such as DM DM Hydantoin or the skimpy SPF that is less than a 15 and or doesn't protect from UVA rays at all.A very current example, Maybelline persists in putting Methylisothiazolinone (Kathon)in products. By assuming the identity of a Catholic boy named `Michel,' Leo survived the Holocaust because of the shelter he was given by a caring, French family and many others along the wayEvading the Nazis is more than a story about survival. Though different than the other books in the series (because Torin is the Keeper of Disease), it was still smokin' hot and I couldn't get enough of the two of them together.Alliances I wasn't expecting formed in The Darkest Craving, we FINALLY got to see the artifacts work in an intriguing manner, Cameo's book was set up (Please, please, please let her be next! *begs*) and we got to know a villain we've only heard about up until this point. Although he does try to connect them to the ancient stuff to know what's valuable back
